Youth Fitness: Goals for 2011

Youth Fitness Resolutions

I don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions.

 

Never have.

 

But I am a determined and purposeful Goal Creator.

 

I’ve learned (from trial and error) that to get what you want (in life, your career, everything) there are 3 very specific and very notable steps you absolutely MUST take:

 

  1. You must write your goals down

  2. You must believe and have faith that they will ‘come true’

  3. You must repeat your goals as an ‘inner dialogue’ several times a day

 

The trade secrets that have worked (wonderfully) in my life.

3-Part Goals for 2011

 

"What’s the main goal I should concentrate on in the New Year, Brian?"

 

A question I get routinely asked between the beginning of October and the end of December every single year.

 

The turning of the calendar to a blank slate and brand new 12-months is a source of enthusiasm for most people.

 

New goals.

 

New directions.

 

Same old dreams… But THIS year, I’ll make them happen.

 

Do you play that annual game yourself?

 

The undeniable (and unfortunate) reality is that most people do in fact create new agendas for themselves as the New Year approaches.

 

I say ‘unfortunate’ simply because statistics show us clearly and definably that end-of-year goals and ambitions almost always fall flat by February (somewhere in the neighborhood of 80% of New Year’s goals are vacated and forgotten by February 28th… Every year).

 

So when asked about what goals I think you should concentrate on as 2011 approaches, my answer is a very simple one (with a 3-part plan):

2 Lessons on Business & Life… Taken from the World of Youth Sports Training

Youth Sports Training Tips

 

Most professional Trainers, be them Fitness Gurus or Sports Performance Experts, may not ever take the time to realize that much of what we hold true and dear in our pursuits of enhancing both the health and ability of young athletes, also translates to the world of business and life as well.

 

Perhaps this lack of ‘connecting-the-dots’ between the two is more than just something that has been overlooked – it’s because the values on which we pride our work with young athletes is far too limited in scope to be accurate.

 

Let me explain that.

 

Our industry holds strong to the notion that short-term, ‘work ’em hard’ training situations that involve high intensity on everything and a slow, methodical infusion of skill on nothing, is what best serves young clients in their need to get better (faster, stronger etc) now.

 

But how often does this gun-slinging approach to life or business prove successful?  And can we take lessons from that as it relates to developing young athletes in Youth Sports Training?

 

How many times do we become handicapped by vein, unplanned and quick attempts to overhaul our businesses or restructure our lives in short periods of time?

 

Think about it.  How many New Year’s Eve goals for the impending year have you set (be them business or life alterations) only to find yourself exactly where you were in November come March?
