Here’s where I left off yesterday…

 

Moreover, I’d be willing to bet that 90% or better of the 13 year olds who walk into your facility would ‘fail’ this standard assessment:

 

  1. They’re growing and lack mobility
  2. They growing and lack coordination
  3. They sit all day and have inappropriate hip functionality as a result
  4. They’ve been introduced to improper ‘training’ and lack posterior strength

 

A formal assessment can certainly show us gains, improvements and corrections when performed at regular intervals – and because of that, I am all for them.

 

But here’s what I’ve learned to be true about coaching young athletes in the trenches:

Young Athletes Give Back

The fact that you read my random thoughts every day means a great
deal to me.

 

No joke.

 

This has never been a "static" message medium for me.

 

I take great care in drafting the kind of information I think you need in
becoming the very best Youth Fitness Coach you can be.

 

And I don’t take the fact you read my daily ramblings for granted.

 

Over the past several days, I’ve recounted some memories I have from
the days when I spent all my waking hours in the trenches working with
kids.

 

Fond memories all.

 

And through them, you’ve gotten to learn a bit more about me.

 

But now I want something from you.

 

I want to know something that I know I have never asked before.

 

What inspires you to work with young athletes and youth fitness

participants?

 

Why is it so important to you?

 

How does it fulfill you?

Coaching Young Athletes

 

It truly is sad that my full-time coaching young athletes days are behind me.

 

I love to Coach.

 

I love it from every aspect and angle.

 

The relationships you build with your athletes.

 

The friendships you develop with their families.

 

The sense of pride you get from watching your athletes succeed.

 

The feelings of intense dedication you get from working "over-time"
trying to figure out how to communicate better with some of the
kids in your care.

 

I’ve been blessed to an extraordinary level and will always wear the
brand of "Coach" with great pride and distinction.

 

But the IYCA has taken my career a different direction.

 

No less exciting.

 

No less fulfilling.

 

And certainly no less challenging.

 

But I admit to longing for the days of waking up at the crack of dawn
and meeting my sleepy-eyed, yet eager athletes at the gym for a
spirited morning session.

 

I miss everything about being a full-time Coach.

 

And that’s why I’m going to indulge you (or perhaps it’s you indulging
me!) over the next few days with stories and recounts of some of the
most memorable days I spent when my name wasn’t "Brian Grasso"
"CEO" or "Founder".

 

I was known simply by one word…

 

 

"Coach"

 

 

It’s going to be a bittersweet stroll down memory lane for me, to be sure,
but one that;

I guarantee will entertain and be laced with lessons that you
can use in your own coaching young athletes practice.

 

In the meantime, indulge me with a quick story about your coaching life.
