Dr. Kwame Brown

Dr. Kwame M. Brown was part of the Founding Board of Directors for the IYCA. He developed the materials for the Level I Youth Fitness Specialist Certification, and edited the textbook Developmental Essentials for the Level II YFS. He collaborated with Eric Chessen to create the Special Needs CEU. He has served as an advisor to hundreds of Youth Fitness Specialists over the past 6 years.

Currently, Dr. Brown is founder and owner of Move Theory, and serves as a Master Trainer and Head of Curriculum Development for Exuberant Animal. He continues to serve in an advisory role for several large scale efforts in youth obesity prevention, such as the Northern Virginia Healthy Kids Coalition.

With over 10 years of experience working with children across every economic and skill level, and extensive experience delivering programs in both private and public organizations, Dr. Brown has become a sought after resource in the field of obesity prevention and athletic development. He has presented on child development, play, youth obesity, athletic development and physical education throughout the United States.

Dr. Brown earned his Ph.D. (2003) from the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience, Georgetown University (Washington, DC) with a concentration in spinal cord injury and sensorimotor development. He won the Maengwyn-Davies Award for Excellence in Research (given to one student per year) while at Georgetown.
